DANIEL Currie will make his long-awaited AFL debut on Sunday after being a late inclusion to North Melbourne's line-up.

Currie will take on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium as a replacement for Sam Wright, ending the 25-year-old's eight-year wait for a senior appearance.

The ruckman was drafted by the Sydney Swans at the end of 2006 and spent five seasons there, but failed to break through for a game.

He was delisted and then crossed to SANFL side North Adelaide, where he impressed enough to be given a second AFL opportunity, with North selecting him at pick 56 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

Currie appeared likely to be a big part of North's plans after an impressive NAB Cup stint last year but despite some strong form in the VFL with Werribee, he didn't manage a senior game.

Out of contract at the end of 2013, there was interest in Currie from other clubs, where he might have been handed more senior opportunities, but he stuck with the Kangaroos and will partner first-choice ruck Todd Goldstein against the Bulldogs' All Australian big man Will Minson.
