FREMANTLE'S premiership window will remain open after 2014 despite several stars nearing the end of their careers, midfielder Nathan Fyfe says.

Star trio Matthew Pavlich (32 this month), Aaron Sandliands (31 on Friday) and Luke McPharlin (32) will begin next season in the twilight of their careers.

The veterans trained with the main squad on Wednesday after doing light work on Monday when the majority of the squad ran a 3km time-trial.

"We're in a good position now," Fyfe said of Fremantle's list.

"We've got a lot of guys training on the track and we've had Ross (Lyon) for two years now, this will be our third on his game-plan.

"We're really starting to feel comfortable and accustomed to it. We're in a healthy stage at the moment.

"Our older contingency is still very strong and really fit. You see Pav and Aaron and Luke McPharlin running out there today they're still fit and able bodies.

"As some guys go, new guys come in and we've seen with our drafting team in recent years they know what they're doing so our window is definitely not closing."

The 22-year-old was named Fremantle's 2013 best and fairest in early November and revealed that night was the first time he and his teammates had seen any footage of the Grand Final loss to Hawthorn.

Fyfe believes the loss is firmly in the past for the Dockers but says they will heed the lessons from that heart-breaking defeat.

"It really is old news," Fyfe said of the Grand Final.

"When you butter up with a heap of new kids on the track it really is a completely new season.

"We'll definitely take lessons from that game and we've probably still got some reviewing to do but it's a new year, new faces around, so a fresh start.

"I think it's an invaluable experience playing in front of a crowd like that with such high stakes.

"So players will definitely take a lot out of it for different reasons and I know going forward now that I should be able to have confidence to play in any match in front of any crowd because we were able to play in front of the biggest crowd."

As the midfielder begins his fifth pre-season at Fremantle he has pinpointed his kicking as the most pivotal area of improvement.

"Clearly I've mentioned before my skills need to improve and continue to improve and that's something that I've been working on and will continue to work on," Fyfe said.

"And just the all-round nature of my game, continuing to have versatility so I can play forward and potentially play back, hopefully not that much, but just continuing to build my game."
