We may as well get the ‘how good is Gary Ablett?’ thread out of the way nice and early this season.

Is it possible that the Suns' champ is getting better? His 135-point performance against St Kilda was nothing short of sensational, and this sort of form makes picking a captain each week all too easy.

He is not only the best player in the competition, but I think he holds that title by some margin.

Far be it from me to compare ‘little Gaz’ to a horse, but his form in round one was Black Caviar-esque. Only North captain Andrew Swallow scored better (141 points) for the round.

However, the season's opening round didn’t deliver only marshmallows and butterflies.

I was very smug with my selection of West Coast Eagles comeback kid Mark LeCras, who quickly raced to 82 Dream Team points before tragedy struck.

The elusive forward will miss about a month after fracturing his arm, but his $355,400 price tag still means people should keep LeCras in the back of their minds upon his return.

A solid replacement for LeCras could be Geelong’s Matthew Stokes, who scored 98 in his side’s Easter Monday victory over the Hawks.

We called it after some impressive NAB Cup performances, but how good is Port Adelaide’s Oliver Wines going to be?

He and mature-age rookie Brett Goodes were clearly the most impressive first-year players in round one with scores of 99 and 91 respectively.

I’m hoping for a similar output from Adelaide’s Brad Crouch, who has been named for his first hit-out with the Crows against the Lions at the Gabba on Saturday.

The midfielder wasn’t going to be left out of too many senior sides after finishing with 31 possessions, seven marks and four clearances in West Adelaide’s win over Central District in the SANFL.

This week marks the start of AFL Fantasy private league matches, and I’m sure the availability of 44 trades means a tweak here and there before facing your rivals.

And don’t forget that NAB AFL Fantasy Match Day returns this week for the Carlton v Collingwood clash on a blockbuster Sunday afternoon of football.

Fantasy Match Day is a quick and easy game played over a single AFL match.

It is as easy as picking a squad of eight for Sunday’s match – with no salary or team cap – scoring points based on the standard AFL Fantasy points system.

If only we could score for the amount of times Mick Malthouse smashes his phone (in victory or defeat) or the sum of boos former Blues' player Jordan Russell receives from people who were once loyal followers.

Mr Fantasy's trade recommendations

Ins: Brad Crouch (Adel), Jack Viney (Melb), James Kelly (Gel)

Crouch is very highly rated at the Crows and expect a solid debut game. Viney was probably the one shining light for the Demons in a horror performance by the club last Sunday, while Kelly has been a prolific DT scorer for years.

Outs: Mark LeCras (WCE), Graham Johncock (Adel), Robin Nahas (Rich)
If other areas of your side need more attention, you could just bench LeCras for now, otherwise trade him out for the month. Johncock and Nahas out of the senior side after round one? They look too risky a DT selection in 2013.
