ST KILDA will sweat on scan results for gun recruit Zak Jones, who limped from the field with hamstring tightness during his side's impressive 26-point victory over reigning premiers Richmond on Saturday.

Jones, who has enjoyed a fine start to his St Kilda career after making the switch from Sydney last October, was among the best in the early stages of its comprehensive win at Marvel Stadium.

He racked up 12 disposals to half-time, helping the Saints build the foundations for their solid victory, but failed to see out the match after injuring his hamstring.

St Kilda will now send the tough midfielder for scans in the coming days, but remains hopeful he could recover in time to take his place in next week's crucial encounter with Carlton.

"He's got a bit of tightness," Saints coach Brett Ratten said.

"We don't think he's torn his hamstring, but we need to get it scanned.

"It's one of those ones where we thought, 'if we take the risk and he does do it, he'll be out for two or three weeks'.

"If it's just a bit of tightness and we get it scanned, he could be available for next week."

Meanwhile, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick believes the stakes are beginning to get desperate for the reigning premiers after its winless run to the restarted season continued on Saturday.

After a low-scoring draw to Collingwood to resume the interrupted campaign, Richmond has now suffered back-to-back defeats against Hawthorn and St Kilda to remain out of the finals equation after four weeks.

"Absolutely it is (desperate)," Hardwick said.

"The season is shortened, we understand that. Every win is incredibly valuable, especially early in the season.

"We've got to start getting some ‘W’s in our column."
