Hundreds of local community members and school children flocked to help Keep the Bay Clean today as part of a joint initiative between Parks Victoria and the St Kilda Football Club.

Beach sites at St Kilda, Brighton, Mordialloc and Frankston were in action as the community joined leading St Kilda players and Parks Victoria rangers to help keep the bay clean and enjoy the unique environment that Port Phillip provides.

St Kilda community ambassador Luke Ball said, “It was fantastic to see so many bright and enthusiastic faces out here today. The bay is a vital part of Victoria and it’s important that we do what we can to preserve and enjoy it.”

Archie Fraser, CEO of the St Kilda Football Club said, “Today’s initiative is the first of what we hope will be many throughout a long and rewarding partnership between the Saints and Parks Victoria. The fact that over 400 local school children have attended today is an extremely encouraging sign that our message is reaching the core of the local community.

Local schools and community members pitched in to clean up and participated in beach games and activities with a host of Saints players including Lenny Hayes, Xavier Clarke, Brendon Goddard, Sam Fisher and many more.

Parks Victoria and the St Kilda Football Club recently joined forces to promote Port Phillip as a great asset for all Victorians. The partnership sees both parties working together to look after this unique environment and encourage the community to make the most of the bay.

Gerard O’Neill, Deputy CEO of Parks Victoria said, “It’s tremendous to see such a positive turnout at the first event following the announcement of our alliance with the St Kilda Football Club. The primary focus of the partnership is to encourage the community to protect and enjoy the bay and after today’s response, we have the utmost confidence of moving forward together and making a difference.”
