RICHMOND’S Cam Howat can accept a two-match suspension with an early plea after being charged by the AFL Match Review Panel on Monday.

Howat was charged with a level four striking offence against Carlton key-position prospect Adam Hartlett during the third quarter of last Thursday’s season opener at the MCG.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points).

Hartlett also faces a similar stint on the sidelines after being charged with a striking offence. The 21-year-old can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea after the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points).

Fremantle defender Dean Solomon will miss this weekend’s second-round match against Hawthorn at Subiaco after being suspended for one match for rough conduct.

The former Essendon player was charged with a level one rough conduct offence against Collingwood veteran Shane Wakelin during the opening quarter of Saturday’s match at the MCG.

His previous poor record and existing carry-over points means his sanction must remain at one match, even with an early plea. The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).

In other incidents assessed, the match review panel will take no further action against Port Adelaide's Daniel Motlop for his charge on Geelong's Joel Corey.

The panel viewed that Motlop made contact just after Corey completed a mark. Motlop did not leave the ground during the incident. He pulled up and did not run through Corey. It was the view of the panel that a 50m penalty was the appropriate action.

Motlop’s shepherd on Cat Shannon Byrnes was also thrown out after it was determined the Power running player made incidental high contact.

The clash between Geelong's Mathew Stokes and Port’s Jacob Surjan from the first quarter of Thursday's game was also reviewed. The panel viewed that Stokes was committed to the contest and contact was unavoidable. Stokes tried to reduce the impact by rolling over Surjan.

Contact between the Brisbane Lions' Anthony Corrie and West Coast's Adam Selwood from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was also reviewed and no action was taken.
