The Saints, in a dress rehearsal for round one of the premiership season where they will meet the Cats again, were led by four goals from skipper Nick Riewoldt and solid performances from Andrew McQualter and Leigh Montagna in the 1.15.7 (106) to 1.6.6 (51) win.
Nick Dal Santo set up several forward forays while defenders James Gwilt and Sam Fisher collected plenty of the ball in the backline and made the Cats pay for mistakes in their defensive 50.
The game itself was ugly early on and it took more than eight minutes for a genuine highlight when former Cat Ryan Gamble got St Kilda fans cheering when he planted a knee in the back of Darren Milburn to mark strongly in attack.
Gamble's resulting goal was the first of four in the opening quarter for the Saints, who also notched a nine-point super goal to Sean Dempster while the Cats could only manage one goal through Shannon Byrnes from a free kick on the siren.
By half time, the Saints had pushed 43 points clear and had seven goalkickers to the Cats' three.
Both sides got through the game without any major injuries, although a groggy Clint Jones went off in the third term with a cut face after a collision with Corey Enright's knee.
Next week will be the second time in a fortnight the Saints meet the Bombers, after drawing with James Hird's men in the round robin involving the Brisbane Lions.
