WEST COAST coach John Worsfold doesn't like to give too much away in derby week and he was typically elusive on Thursday morning.

Queries on the Eagles' recent form against Fremantle were batted away, as were those related to midfielder Daniel Kerr's treatment and the planning that goes into Matthew Pavlich.

However, the coach did allude to the debut of elevated rookie Adam Cockie, who has been superb at WAFL level.

"We feel as though his form is good enough to warrant stepping up," Worsfold said.

The hard-bodied midfielder has a year of senior WAFL experience under his belt and he was best on ground for Subiaco on Monday.

Worsfold said the short turnaround wouldn't be too big a factor when Cockie is considered for this Saturday's clash, along with a number of players impressing in the state competition.

"It's great to have a lot more players available and playing really well in the WAFL," he said.

"[We're] pretty comfortable with what we've got, but there are also a lot of players saying, 'I'm in pretty good form, when's my opportunity going to come?'

"That's how you really want it."

Tim Houlihan and Josh Kennedy have been banging on the door for a number of weeks now, while premiership players Chad Fletcher and Mark Seaby, Scott Selwood, Jamie McNamara and Ryan Davis have spent time at the lower level.

But it seems to be a tough side to break into, with Worsfold fairly content with his healthy group's start to the year.

"We've had one bad game away but overall the efforts of the players I've been pretty happy with and where they're taking their game to," he said.

"All the indicators are they're up and going, fully recovered and ready to go.

"Our team's pretty well balanced so far this year. We're pretty happy with the way it's going."

Adam Selwood has been free to roam Subiaco Oval in his side's last two wins and Worsfold said the attacking side of the midfielder's game had been a natural part of his role this year.

"A couple of those games have been outstanding through the midfield in winning the ball, getting it going and winning clearances," he said.

"He's certainly got that ability to do that through the midfield. He's done tagging roles, so it’s a credit to him to be able fill so many roles and do them all well for us."

Worsfold praised 200-gamer Pavlich, but said the threat of Fremantle lifting for the skipper's milestone wouldn't affect his planning.

He said Fremantle had simply been better on the day when winning five of the past six derbies and was direct when asked why that would change on Saturday.

"Different day," he said.
