With West Coast rocked by the late withdrawals of Michael Gardiner and Peter Matera, the Power kicked five goals to two in the first quarter and then held West Coast goalless in the second while kicking four more of their own to break the game wide open.
Port Adelaide went further ahead in the third quarter before West Coast prevented a complete whitewash with the first four goals of the last term as they went down 17.19.121 to 7.8.50.
Nick Stevens and Fabian Francis knocked up getting the ball in the middle, feasting on captain Matthew Primus’ dominance in the ruck, while Peter Burgoyne kicked four goals and Warren Tredrea and Josh Carr three each.
West Coast were well served by skipper Ben Cousins, Chad Fletcher and Daniel Kerr in the centre, while after being well held for three quarters, Troy Wilson booted three goals in the last term to lead the scoring.
Che Cockatoo-Collins and Francis kicked the first two goals of the game, before firstly Dean Kemp and then Daniel Kerr replied to close the gap to just a point midway through the first term.
But from there it was all Port Adelaide as Tredrea, Roger James and rookie Cain Ackland all booted majors to give the power the jump at quarter time, 5.4.34 to 2.2.14.
Things only got worse for West Coast in the second term, the home side kept goalless as the visitors kicked four goals through Peter Burgoyne (two goals), Carr, and Tredrea to pull 47 points clear at the main break, 9.9.63 2.4.16.
Burgoyne kicked the opening goal of the second half to notch his third, before Chad Fletcher finally snapped a run of eight successive goals by the Power with just West Coast’s third.
But the West Coast joy was short-lived though, Ackland and Carr each popping through their second goal and when Burgoyne kicked his fourth, the Power led by 69 points at three-quarter time, 13.15.93 to 3.6.24.
Wilson finally made his presence felt in the last quarter after being well held, kicking three goals, with Fletcher also putting through his second, before Francis (two), Carr and Cockatoo-Collins answered with four of their own late in the game.
