FIVE goals one week and three the next - along with 31 possessions - have Swans fans excited about Ben McGlynn.

It's hard not to be: the diminutive midfielder has been a boom recruit for the Swans, and if he keeps up this form will be an integral part of the side for a long time to come.

"He was really good again," coach Paul Roos said after the match. "I thought it would be a tough night for him, because [players] have breakout games and get tagged and someone jumps all over him, so for him to do what he did again tonight was a really good effort."

But McGlynn was quick to deflect that praise to his teammates.

"I'm just playing my role and if everyone does that then you win games," he told sydneyswans.com.au. "The defenders did that, Daniel Bradshaw was great up forward and I think we looked good out there.

"It was good to get a win, but it would have been good to kick more goals instead of points and that let us down. But at the end of the day we got the four points."

A Swans drop-off after half-time was an issue but it's one McGlynn believes the side will resolve.

"Richmond were winning the ball in the middle which we pride ourselves on, so we had to shut them down and get back into it, where they were taking it away from us.

"When that happens I think we have got to slow it down a bit and control the footy more."
