The AFL fixture is not expected to be released until early next week as the long running stand-off relating to television coverage of the game for next season nears its conclusion. The draw was scheduled to be released this Thursday but AFL media manager Patrick Keane told Sportal, the broadcasters had asked the league to delay its release for "a few days" to enable it to solve several issues.Keane said the league agreed rather than release the draw and then be forced to alter the venue or times of some of its matches. The delay is due to the failure of Channels Seven and Ten, which secured the AFL television rights for 2007-11 after matching the Nine-Foxtel offer of $780 million, to come to an agreement with Foxtel over how many games will be shown on pay television.Over the past five years Foxtel has shown three games a week live but had agreed to four under its proposed deal with Channel Nine. The pay-TV channel, which recently closed its 24 hour a day Fox Footy Channel because of the long running stand-off with Seven and Ten, is believed to be back in negotiations with the two networks in a bid to again televise matches next season with an announcement expected by the end of this week.If the parties are unable to come to an agreement then Seven and Ten will be forced to show all eight games a week live on free-to-air television next season, which would mean not only having to go up against rugby league in prime-time in New South Wales and Queensland on Friday nights but also having to go head-to-head against each other on Saturday nights. However if Seven and Ten are able to come to an agreement with Foxtel then three or possibly four games a week will be shown live on pay television instead. But these matches are likely to be shown on Foxtel's new Fox Sports Three channel, rather than on the Fox Footy Channel which will not return even if Foxtel secures AFL coverage next year.Foxtel would then not only show the Friday night games live into New South Wales and Queensland but would also probably broadcast the new Sunday twilight fixtures, which are a feature of next year's draw. While this year there were only a handful of such games staged - and all of them were in Perth - next year there will be a Sunday twilight game every week, including several in Melbourne beginning at 4.45pm.
