ADELAIDE coach Neil Craig says Saturday night's Showdown with Port Adelaide will be the perfect game for the club's most inexperienced players.

As many has five young Crows, Andy Otten, Patrick Dangerfield, Jared Petrenko, Taylor Walker and Myke Cook, could make their showdown debut at AAMI Stadium this week.

The promising quintet has already experienced the likes of playing Collingwood at the MCG and big games against unbeaten sides Geelong and St Kilda.

But Craig said Saturday night's clash could prove to be their biggest test yet.

"For our less-experienced players it will be a good experience and there are some areas of their games in particular that they'll need to improve to play in this game," he said on Wednesday.

"In terms of adding to their AFL career experience, which they need to develop, this is the perfect game for them."

Adelaide skipper Simon Goodwin will take part in his 21st showdown this week and he said the only thing that had changed over the past decade was the win-loss ledger.

The Crows have won seven of the past 10 showdowns under Craig.

"Early in my career, Port got a fantastic start on us and, over the years, we've pegged that back to be 13-12," Goodwin said.

"The intensity has remained the same, the support for both sides is still there and the players look forward to it. It hasn't changed one bit. It's great preparation of us as players to play in big games and we look forward to it every time it comes around."

Midfielder Chris Knights, who has recovered from a fractured eye-socket, only needs to get through training on Wednesday night to be recalled to the side after three weeks on the sidelines.
