Lions Captain and reigning Club Champion Jonathan Brown is set to play his first match of the season this Friday night against Melbourne in Cairns after he was selected in the Lions’ 29-man squad.

Brown has been eased back into the side following a cautious pre-season and will gain some valuable match practice at Cazaly Stadium against the Demons.

It will be Brown’s first official hit-out since he was appointed sole Club Captain back in October last year.

The Lions have also welcomed back Vice-Captain Luke Power, Travis Johnstone, Jared Brennan and Michael Rischitelli to the side.

Tim Notting, Ashley McGrath, Justin Sherman and Daniel Dzufer have been rested from the side that lost to Essendon by two points in Melbourne last week.

The Lions will field their strongest of the pre-season with Vice-Captains Simon Black, Daniel Merrett and ruckman Jamie Charman the most notable absentees.
