When did you first join the Sydney Swans and what Membership will you hold in 2011?
I first joined the Swans in 2010 and currently hold a Full Blooded 11 Game Gold membership.
What do you like most about being a member?
Having spent many years watching the Swans on television I realised it only provided a single dimension. Becoming a member opened up what it is to be a Swan and getting down to the games at the SCG with other Swans fans has brought the game to life.
What is your all-time favourite Swans moment? What made it so special?
I could say watching the 2005 Grand Final win, Lockett beating the record, the many retirements including Paul Kelly, Paul Roos and Michael O’Loughlin. I have seen them all on television but the best moment from last season was the Mummy and Pyke sandwich of Jonathan Brown, he had no idea what hit him. This only just pipped Jetta’s first goal!
You played in the Celebrity match out at Blacktown Oval the other week, what were the highlights?
Getting the opportunity to play in front of nearly 10,000 people was a one off experience that I will never forget. The game was played in good spirit and I can say that the highlight was being out marked by Paul Kelly. I still have no idea where he came from to mark that ball.
Which player do you think is set to surprise a few people in 2011?
This is a hard question; the fact that so many of the young guys stepped up last year and did themselves proud will mean they will have to lift the bar again in 2011. Let’s hope that the run of injuries will not be as bad as last year, however in saying that I will not be surprised to see Jed Lamb get a good run this year. I would also like to see Jetta start the season as well as he finished in 2010.
Who is your favourite Swans player and why are they your favourite?
My favourite player is Kieren Jack. Like many I watched his father play rugby league during the 1980’s for Australia and now seeing his son playing a totally different sport at the elite level is remarkable. Not to mention the fact Kieren was voted Club Champion for 2010!
Where do you sit at the SCG/ANZ Stadium? Why do you love these seats?
I’m lucky in that I’m two rows from the boundary line at both venues. The seats are close enough to feel the big hits and it really does give you an appreciation for the physicality of the contest.
What do you like most about coming to Swans matches?
I have been to all of the other football codes, supported local, state and national teams. I have been at games with 120,000 people and games with 5,000 people but I have not witnessed and felt the support and atmosphere that is generated at the SCG for a Swans match. Swans fans support their team regardless of the result and you can sense the general love for the Club that their supporters have.
Any final words for the team?
You are starting a new era with a new coach, the team is changing but the army of supporters will continue to follow and lift the team. Give your best and play for each other and on the day anything can happen.
