The Hawthorn Football Club was proud to be a part of the ‘Boroondara Cares’ Program, which saw 125 people from drought affected areas in the Shire of Moira attend the round 13 clash vs the Kangaroos. People from Cobram, Numurkah and Yarrawonga left their farms for the day to head to the paddock of the MCG to relax and have time away from the extreme pressures of the drought and enjoy some time with their kids.
The trip and transport was arranged by Boroondara Cares, the tickets were provided by the AFL, and lunch by the Hawthorn Football Club. Even McDonald’s provided the food for the trip back in the bus.
So it was the coming together of communities to give some of the community of Moira the opportunity to get away from their drought ravaged country.
Many of those who attended the MCG had never been there before, so it was a wonderful experience enjoyed by all.
