1956-61 94 games 274 goals. (b: 6 Jun 1931 179 cms 73 kgs). A frail looking full-forward from Stratford who was only 11 and a half stone. He was a prolific goalkicker in country football and a fine all-round sport who once top scored for a Victorian country eleven against the English tourists and was also a star cyclist. Many VFL clubs chased him and Melbourne's Norm Smith tried to persuade him to tear up the form he eventually signed with St Kilda. He couldn't get a clearance until the third round of 1956 and he had a slow start which sparked criticism that he was too light and too old (almost 24). But his uncanny feel for kicking goals proved them wrong and he topped the VFL goalkicking with 56 in his first year. He scored the same tally in each of his next two seasons and headed the Saints' goalkicking from 1956-60. He was credited by Blair Campbell with inventing the reverse punt shot at goal. He represented a Victorian B team in 1959.
