TWO HAWTHORN players have been interviewed by police over allegations a woman was sexually assaulted six days after the club's grand final win.

The club says two players are at the centre of allegations a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the Melbourne suburb of Ashwood on October 9.

Police say two men have been interviewed over a sexual offence at the same location and on the same day.

"Box Hill sexual offences and child abuse investigation team last night interviewed two men as part of their investigation into a report of a sexual offence, alleged to have occurred in Ashwood on 9 October," police said in a statement on Tuesday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman later confirmed the interviews involved two Hawthorn players, but declined to comment further.

It's believed the alleged victim told police she was raped in the back of a taxi and then at a property in Ashwood after meeting the AFL players at a bar.
