AFTER suffering heavy defeats in the past fortnight, the gloves are off at Punt Road with Tigers defender Joel Bowden dropped from the side to face Fremantle on Sunday.

The 29-year-old veteran of 238 games has paid the price for an indifferent start to the season, with Terry Wallace also axing Greg Tivendale and Matt White as he looks for a winning combination.

Kayne Pettifer will also miss after taking an early plea on a one-match ban for striking Collingwood’s Nick Maxwell during last Sunday’s 44-point loss to Collingwood.

Coming into the side for their first games of the 2008 campaign are Jack Riewoldt, Luke McGuane and Shane Edwards, while Chris Hyde returns after being omitted last week.

Daniel Connors is an emergency along with Bowden and White.

Despite a breakthrough win last week, Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has turned over four players from the side that scored a memorable 14-point triumph over the West Coast Eagles.

Out go Matthew Carr, Heath Black, Robert Warnock and Ryan Murphy, while out-of-sorts forward Chris Tarrant has won back his spot along with Luke McPharlin, Dean Solomon and Scott Thornton.

Murphy and Warnock are emergencies with midfielder Garrick Ibbotson.

Hawthorn has settled on one change to its unbeaten side with perennial favourite Shane Crawford coming in for the suspended Jordan Lewis for Sunday’s clash with Adelaide at Aurora Stadium.

Crawford has served a three-match suspension incurred during last year’s semi-final loss to the Kangaroos, while Lewis, who also missed the start of the season through suspension, departs for one game after being found guilty of striking Daniel Pratt.

Tim Clarke, Josh Kennedy and Mark Williams are the emergencies.

The Crows have made two forced changes following their bruising win over Port Adelaide.

Luke Jericho (cracked sternum) and Kris Massie (hamstring) are out, replaced by onballers Robert Shirley and Bryce Campbell. The latter will play his first game of the season and the second of his career after debuting in round 17 last year against Essendon.

Jarrhan Jacky and Patrick Dangerfield had been in line to make their debuts, but drop back to the emergency bench with Ivan Maric.

Carlton has recalled Setanta O’hAilpin and Shaun Grigg as it attempts to avoid an unwanted record of consecutive losses when it meets Collingwood on Sunday.

It will be a club record 15th straight loss if the Blues can’t get over the Pies, with Ryan Houlihan (hip) unable to take his place and ruckman Shaun Hampson omitted.

Hampson is an emergency with Adam Bentick and Steven Browne.

There's just one change for the Magpies with Irishman Martin Clarke in for John Anthony, unlucky after booting two goals on debut last week.

He is an emergency along with Danny Stanley and Tyson Goldsack.

With Dean Cox already under an injury cloud, West Coast’s preparations for Saturday night’s clash with the Sydney Swans have suffered a further blow with 2006 Norm Smith Medallist Andrew Embley unable to make the team’s flight to Sydney after falling ill.

Emergencies Mark Nicoski and Brad Ebert have been flown over with one to take his place.
