COLLINGWOOD will go to the tribunal on Tuesday night to contest the one-match suspension forward Chris Dawes received for striking Richmond's Reece Conca.

The match review panel found Dawes guilty of striking Conca during the clash between Richmond and Collingwood on Friday night, ruling on Monday that he had made high, negligent and low-impact contact with the first-year Tiger.

The Pies will take on the case in a bid to have the in-form spearhead available to play against Essendon in the Anzac Day showdown on Monday at the MCG.

Collingwood’s general manager of football, Geoff Walsh, told collingwoodfc.com.au: "We decided pretty early we would go to the tribunal. It's only a difference in points so we will put forward a case."

The offence attracted only a reprimand, but because Dawes had carryover points on his record (after a minor incident with Geelong’s Cameron Ling last year) he faces a suspension, even if he lodges an early guilty plea.

Dawes remains eligible for the Brownlow Medal because his original penalty was less than 100 points. However, Matthew Pavlich will be unable to win football's most prestigious individual award if he accepts a reprimand for striking North Melbourne's Liam Anthony at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.

The offence originally attracted a total of 125 demerit points, but when Pavlich's good record is taken into account, the penalty is reduced to 93.75.

If Pavlich lodges an early guilty plea he will get an additional discount and will have only 70.31 points added to his record.

The match day report against Collingwood’s Leigh Brown for striking Richmond’s Reece Conca, during the third quarter of Friday’s match, was thrown out.
