NORTH Melbourne has signed defender Nathan Grima to a new one-year contract, putting an end to speculation about a possible change of clubs.
Still basking in the glow of his first career goal last Saturday – which came in his 72nd game – Grima said he had no hesitation in re-committing to the Kangaroos.
"I love being at the club and never had an intention of going elsewhere," the 28-year-old told NMFC.com.au on Friday.
"It's great to be here for another 12 months at this stage and hopefully beyond."
Plagued by injury throughout his career, Grima has managed 17 matches this season, and said he now hopes to complete a full pre-season and gather momentum ahead of next year.
Admitting he had not reached peak form in 2013, the Tasmanian expressed confidence he could improve and help the club return to the finals.
"I wouldn't say it's a failed year by any stretch, because I've got on the park and played most of the season, but I think the supporters do expect more from me and so do the coaching staff," he said.
"My biggest aim now is to sign this contract, get fit and aim to play every game next year, which I've never done before, and play finals footy with this club.
"We should be playing finals footy this year, and we're not."
The announcement of Grima's new contract came on the same day as the news that veteran Brent Harvey had also signed on for a 19th season at Arden Street.
