ST KILDA is a step closer to concluding its end of season review after a telephone hook-up of board members on Tuesday morning.

Club director and Trevor Barker Medalist, Andrew Thompson, has been spearheading the review into the club's football department after the Saints finished a disappointing 16th in 2013.

The long-term future for coach Scott Watters remains uncertain, with the club yet to offer him a contract extension beyond 2014.

The off-season so far has proven tumultuous with a mad Monday incident, the resignation of chief executive Michael Nettlefold and the appointment of new president Peter Summers. Long-time football manager Greg Hutchison was also made redundant.

Summers heads the AV Jennings empire, and it's understood his approach has been more forceful than his predecessor Greg Westaway.

At the heart of Thompson's review is the way Watters’ football department is run.

While AFL.com.au is in no way suggesting Watters’ position is in immediate jeopardy, it's understood the review will recommend he make some specific changes to his approach.

There have been murmurings of discontent at the Seaford based club for most of the year, although no one is prepared to go public and for obvious reasons.

The Saints entourage was keen to avoid the media at the opening day of trade talks at Etihad Stadium on Monday.

Watters was there, but the entire contingent left via a back exit at the end of the day.

Down at Seaford the Saints are able to keep a low profile most of the time, but negotiations for veteran Nick Dal Santo to move to North Melbourne put the behind the scenes workings of the club on the public agenda.

As it stands there appears to be disagreement within the St Kilda camp on what the Dal Santo move should look like.
