COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Pendlebury suffered an ankle sprain against Brisbane at the Gabba and could miss next week's huge clash against the Cats.

The star Magpie had his left boot off on the bench midway through the third term of Sunday's match before heading down to the rooms.

He later returned to the field but came back off for more treatment and was ruled out at three-quarter time.

Collingwood's task of making it five wins from six against in-form Geelong next Sunday could be made more difficult with Pendlebury in doubt.

"It's a sprained ankle at this point," coach Nathan Buckley said.

"He just couldn't get it going. We'll know more about that in the next day or two.

"He was fairly bullish about it but felt like he was impeded enough to not play his role, but we'll see what happens when the dust settles."
