PORT ADELAIDE could stray from its youth policy this week in favour of selecting a team more capable of beating the Crows.
Port has recalled premiership veterans Brendon Lade and Michael Wilson to the 25-man-squad, which will be culled to 22 on Friday afternoon.
Lade was dropped in favour of promising young ruckman Fabian Deluca three weeks ago, but after some strong performances in the SANFL, looks set for a call up against Adelaide.
Primus said the match committee was faced with a dilemma at the selection table this week.
“Fabian was ok against the Bulldogs. He wasn’t great last week and we could really put the acid on him to see how he performs against the Crows guys,” Primus said on Friday.
“Or do we bring in an experienced player and know what we’re going to get from a Brendon Lade?
“They are the decisions we’ve got to make; what’s best for the next six or seven weeks or what’s best for Sunday.”
Primus revealed tough nut Wilson had been picked in the squad more so because of the ‘big occasion’ and his importance to the group rather than his form.
The forecast for Adelaide on Sunday is 14 degrees with rain and strong winds. Primus said the conditions made it unlikely that Lade, Deluca and Dean Brogan would all play in the same team.
“The weather coming doesn’t look like it’s going to be super great [for talls], but we want some competition down there [up forward] and some guys with the ability to bring the ball to ground. Whether that’s four talls, five talls or three, we’ll soon know,” Primus said.
“[Our decisions will be based], mainly, on what we want to do, if we’ve got enough run and whether we can have enough of a mix-up to cause the Crows a few head aches.
“They are the decisions we’ve got to make in terms of which one is better for us.”
