DRAFT hopefuls have been put to the test in front of AFL clubs as part of the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine and 2022 NAB AFL State Draft Combines.

The 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine was held in Melbourne from October 7-9 and featured 68 of the most talented boys footballers from across the country in the first national Combine since 2019.

Physical testing was held at Margaret Court Arena and AIA Centre on Sunday October 7, with Western Australia's Darcy Jones setting a new record on the agility test, with a time of 7.70 seconds. Jones broke the previous record of 7.77 set by Stephen Hill back in 2008.

The Melbourne-based State Combine was also held on October 7, featuring 44 players from Victoria, Tasmania, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT.

It was the first of three State Combines for players who missed out on an invite to the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine.

The highlight of the State Combine in Melbourne was Calder Cannons utility Rye Penny producing an effort of 89cm on the standing vertical jump, which equalled the all-time Combine record set by Aidan Bonar at the 2017 NAB AFL Draft Combine. However, Penny’s name won’t be added to the record books as only results recorded at the National Combine are listed in the all-time best results.

Testing moved to Adelaide on Saturday October 15, where 15 players from South Australia featured at UniSA Mawson Lakes and Bridgestone Athletics Track.

Glenelg's Lachlan Scannell put on a blistering display in the 2km time trial, recording a time of 5:49, which was the fastest of any player at this year's Combines.

The final NAB AFL State Draft Combine was held in Perth on Sunday October 16, where 12 players from across Western Australia were put through their paces at Gold Netball Centre and Ern Clark Athletic Track.

Perth's Baxter Phillip was the standout and featured inside the top three performers across all five tests recorded on the day.

The 2022 NAB AFL Draft will be held on Monday November 28 and Tuesday November 29.
