The 32-year-old, who is the oldest player on the Swans list, said after the match that he would honour his contract and continue on in 2005.
"(I'm) still going to go on next year, so I'll see how I go," Maxfield said post-match.
But when asked whether he would go around as skipper for the third successive season, Maxfield said: "That'll be up to the coaching staff I suppose."
During his post-match media conference, Sydney coach Paul Roos also confirmed that midfielder Paul Williams, ruckman Jason Ball and key defender Andrew Schauble would continue in 2005.
And Roos said Rowan Warfe, who played just one match this season to take his AFL career tally to 110 matches, was the only player to announce his retirement at this stage.
