The Lions were given a boost on Tuesday night when Brownlow Medallist Simon Black avoided suspension for making contact with an umpire and was hit with a fine for pleading guilty instead.
While most of the early week talk on Sunday’s match has centred around how to stop irresistible Cats midfielder Gary Ablett, Drummond said the Lions should not look outside their own backyard.
He said they only had to rewind the clock two weeks to find the key to victory.
“It's a great test to go to Geelong and play probably the best team for the past couple of years,” Drummond said.
“The contested footy is going to be crucial and we probably have to nullify their ball winners.
“But you can worry about them all you want and all their stars but it's going to come down to us.
“It's the tackling pressure, and the way we played against Sydney is the way we play our best footy.
“We weren't far off last week but a couple of our key indicators were just a little bit down and Collingwood put us under a lot of pressure. We didn't use the ball that well and turned it over a few times and in modern footy that's a killer.”
Drummond’s own stocks have risen this season as opposition teams quickly identify his raking left foot as a key to Lions’ success.
He was arguably the Lions’ best in the 33-point win against the Swans, while the Magpies found a way to stifle the rebounding backman.
Collingwood assigned Dale Thomas the task of running with Drummond in a negative role and the 26-year-old had trouble breaking the shackles.
However Drummond said he and coach Michael Voss were working on ways to ensure this did not happen in the future.
“Against Sydney I was dropping back and used as a spare man, whereas Collingwood were very diligent and made sure I didn't get any time or space but you've got to learn from that,” he said.
“It's a bit of a learning curve. We've played four games and every week has been a different challenge with how the opposition has set up, but it's been enjoyable.
“That's the big thing each week, we don't want to be dictated to and you don't know how opposition teams will set up but we'll put plans in place.”
Drummond will play his 50th senior game for the Lions on Sunday.
