See some of the best stats from NAB League Girls Round 6, including the Eastern Ranges’ pinpoint style of ball control and several Gippsland Power youngsters giving the club plenty to look forward to in future.

THREE KEYS TO VICTORY

  1. The Eastern Ranges only just secured a four-point triumph over the Calder Cannons, but their ability to control the ball may have proved the difference. The Ranges had 62 more kicks than Calder and took 41 marks to 20, helping them generate 36 inside-50s to 24. Tess Flintoff (game-highs of 21 kicks and nine marks) and Emma Horne (13 and five) were crucial parts of this pinpoint game style.

  1. The coaching panel of the Oakleigh Chargers would have been delighted with their team’s ability to share the love inside 50 during a 54-point defeat of the Murray Bushrangers. The Chargers clearly boast a host of scoring avenues, with nine individual goalkickers kicking 11 total majors against Murray – led by Melanie Bertuna and Jasmine D’Amato with two goals each.

  1. Forward-line efficiency is crucial in posting winning scores and the Northern Knights have proven potent inside 50 this season. They were at it again in a 45-point win against the Gippsland Power, kicking 10 goals from 30 inside-50s (33 per cent efficiency) while Gippsland could only manage three majors from 28 entries (11 per cent). Lanarose Picioane was Northern’s primary goalkicker with three six-pointers.

TOP FIVE STATS OF THE WEEK

  1. 16-year-old Maggie Styles made an impressive NAB League Girls debut for the Calder Cannons in their narrow loss to the Eastern Ranges, recording a round-high seven rebound-50s among her 12 disposals. Styles’ work in defence played a key part in restricting Eastern to four goals from 36 inside-50s for the match.

  1. The race for the NAB League Girls goalkicking title is heating up and Geelong Falcons top-ager Mia Skinner again showed why she’s the one to beat in her team’s 75-point victory over the Western Jets. Skinner booted her second bag of four majors for 2019 to take her season tally to 15 – four ahead of Emily Harley (Oakleigh Chargers) and Georgie Prespakis (Calder Cannons).

  1. Murray Bushrangers 16-year-old Caitlin Gogoll may have won fewer disposals (one) than any of her teammates in a defeat at the hands of the Oakleigh Chargers, but that certainly didn’t mean she wasn’t putting in effort: Gogoll also laid a round-high 12 tackles to continually harass Oakleigh’s ball-getters.

  1. The Bendigo Pioneers benefited from a couple of well-rounded individual performances in an 18-point triumph over the Dandenong Stingrays. Over-ager Jordyn Jolliffe produced a game-high 20 disposals, four inside-50s and two goals, while 16-year-old Brooke Hards recorded 18 touches, a game-high eight tackles and one major.

  1. The Gippsland Power might be enduring a lean season in terms of wins, but the club is developing some genuine talent for next year. The Power’s top three disposal-getters in their loss to the Northern Knights are all 17-year-olds in 2019: Megan Fitzsimon (round-high 28 disposals), Chandra Abrahams (21) and Grace McRae (19 - pictured).
