Men and women competing at the top levels of state league football in New South Wales/ACT, Queensland and Tasmania will have the opportunity to be part of an expanded representative football program in 2024.

Newly established men's and women's matches featuring players representing Tasmania taking on combined teams from AFL Sydney and AFL Canberra competitions will take place in July in Launceston.

Before coming together to take on Tassie, AFL Canberra and AFL Sydney representative teams will play each other in the nation's capital in May in what is another new addition to the representative Australian rules football calendar.

The Queensland v Tasmania men's and women's matches, reintroduced in 2023 and held in Hobart, will continue with the two states to clash on the Gold Coast in June.

The Queensland squads will provide an opportunity for anyone playing in competitions across the state, with the majority of the talent expected to come from the QAFL and QAFLW. Tasmania picks its men from the Tasmanian State League (TSL) and women from the three top regional competitions (Southern Football League, Northern Tasmania Football Association and North West Football League Women's).

The bolstered representative football program involving New South Wales/ACT, Queensland and Tasmania provides the best players from the top leagues in those states and territories with more opportunities to showcase their talent and aspire to play at a higher level.
