The 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships - U16 Boys will kick off this weekend.

The Championships feature many of the best under-16 footballers in Australia, with matches to be played across Australia over the next month.

The 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys will feature 10 teams competing across two pools, with matches to be played across the country over the next month.

Pool A will feature four teams, including South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia.

Pool B will comprise six teams, including the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory, Sydney Swans Academy and Tasmania.

The first round of fixtures will see matches played across four states, with all matches in the final two rounds to be played on the Gold Coast from July 8 to 12 during the school holidays.

The team that finishes top of the standings for each pool will be crowned title winner.

If two teams finish equal on points atop a ladder, the title will be awarded to the team that won the round-robin match between those two teams. If those two sides have not played against each other, or if more than two teams finish equal on points atop a ladder, the title will be awarded to the team with the highest percentage.

Victoria Metro (Pool A) and Brisbane Lions Academy (Pool B) are the reigning title holders.

At the conclusion of the 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys each team will select their MVP, with an overall best and fairest and All Australian team to be selected by a panel comprising AFL Talent Pathways staff and AFL recruiters.

The Championships commence this Saturday, June 8 with a double-header at Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

Northern Territory and Tasmania will meet in the opening match at 11:30am AEST, ahead of a clash between Victoria Metro and Victoria Country from 2:30pm AEST.
