MELBOURNE is preparing to challenge Dean Kent's rough conduct charge at the VFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Kent was reported for an incident in the Casey Scorpions' five-point loss to Werribee at Casey Fields on Sunday.

The charge was laid after the VFL viewed footage of the incident and determined that Kent had a case to answer. The Demons half-forward was offered a one-week ban but he chose to contest the charge.

The 20-year-old forward has played two games at AFL level this season, kicking one goal and averaging 12 possessions from his two outings against Greater Western Sydney (round four) and Carlton (round five).

Kent has been on the verge of senior selection for the past two weeks, as he seeks to add to his 17 career matches, but a potential suspension will delay those plans.

Kent will appear at the VFL Tribunal at 6.30pm on Tuesday night.
