The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 13.

Two-time Sydney best and fairest Jake Lloyd will play his first VFL match in close to 13 years when he lines up for the Swans against Southport at Fankhauser Reserve.

Lloyd’s last VFL game was in Round 17, 2012 when he played for North Ballarat. He has since gone on to play 262 AFL games, winning the Swans best and fairest in 2018 and 2022.

He’s joined in the strengthened Swans team by Corey Warner, Peter Ladhams and debutants Riak Andrew and Max King. Andrew was the No. 55 pick in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, while King is a highly-touted member of the Sydney Swans Academy.

Southport will be without former skipper Mike Manteit due to a minor hip issue, with a win to send the Sharks back to the top of the ladder.

Geelong has named Jack Bowes for its clash with the Brisbane Lions at GHMBA Stadium. It will be Bowes’ first game since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Round 11 AFL win over Port Adelaide.

He will be joined in the Cats line-up by young ruck Mitch Edwards, who will play his first game since last year’s Round 14 win over Sandringham. Keighton Matofai-Forbes and Nathan Kreuger, who was a late exclusion last week, also come into the Cats' line-up.

The Lions will be without in-form forward Will McLachlan, who has earned an AFL call-up after booting 13 goals in the past three games, while Academy prospect Dan Annable has been managed.

Paddy Dow will play his first game in 2025 when Sandringham makes the trip to the AIA Vitality Centre to take on Collingwood. It follows a difficult few months for the ball magnet, who has undergone several bouts of surgery after being struck down by bacterial infection in his knee.

He returns to the Zebras team with Zak Jones and Angus Hastie, while the Magpies have omitted promising young forward Riley Mason.

Williamstown regains key duo Lachie Gollant and Nick Ebinger for its battle with old foe Werribee at DSV Stadium. However, it's not all good news for the Seagulls, with Jovan Petric to miss with a knee issue.

The Tigers have taken another significant hit, with in-form defender Ryan Eyers staring at a long spell on the sidelines with a major hamstring injury, while Frank Johnson medallist Louis Pinnuck will miss again due to an ankle complaint.

North Melbourne key position pair Kallan Dawson and Wil Dawson return for the away clash with Carlton at IKON Park, although Eddie Ford goes out with a foot injury and skipper Darcy Macpherson has been managed.

Will White and Lachie Cowan come into the Blues' team, while experienced ruck Marc Pittonet has been recalled to the AFL team.

Darby Hipwell headlines four inclusion for Frankston's clash with Essendon under lights at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night. Seb Quirk goes out of the Dolphins' team with an ankle injury.

The Bombers have made five changes, with Archer Day-Wicks and Dom Akuei among the ins, however Ben Hobbs returned to the AFL side, Oskar Smartt and Kayle Gerryn will miss with injury and NGA prospect Adam Sweid returns to Calder Cannons duties.

Footscray has made seven changes for its clash with Richmond at Marvel Stadium. Jason Johannisen headlines the inclusions, with Jordan Croft returning from injury and Ewan Macpherson named for his Bulldogs return following stints with Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne.

In-form midfielders Cooper Craig-Peters and Harvey Gallagher will miss with injury, while Nick Coffield has been named for his first AFL game of the season.

Richmond will unveil last year's No. 12 draft pick Taj Hotton, with the exciting midfielder/forward expected to play half a game in his first match in over a year following a knee reconstruction.

Dom Bedendo returns for Port Melbourne's important clash with Coburg at ETU Stadium, where the Lions have brought in Max Thompson among three changes.

Injuries continue to plague the GWS Giants, with Marc Sheather set to miss the rest with an ankle injury while Conor Stone has succumbed to a foot issue. Josaia Delana returns from the AFL side, while three players will make their VFL debut.

The Gold Coast Suns have named a strong side as they hunt their first win since Round 5, with David Swallow, Leo Lombard, Sean Lemmens, Lewis Johnston and Caleb Lewis all included.

BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App. The Seven Network will broadcast a match live and free on 7mate in Victoria and 7plus Sport nationally every Saturday night. This week’s broadcast match will be Frankston vs Essendon.
