The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 15.
There's positive news at the selection table for Richmond, with Josh Gibcus named for his first game since suffering a serious knee injury in Round 1 last year.
The popular young defender will be joined in the Tigers' line-up for the clash with Geelong at GMHBA Stadium by dual premiership rebounding defender Jayden Short, who is on the comeback trail from a calf injury.
The Cats have named three debutants for Sunday's game, which includes 2024 draftees Lennox Hoffman and Jacob Molier.
Stephen Coniglio will play his first game since Round 4 of the AFL season when the GWS Giants travel to Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval to take on Werribee.
Coniglio makes his long-awaited return alongside Nick Madden, Phoenix Gothard and Jack Ough, while Max Gruzewski and James Leake have been promoted to the Giants’ senior team.
Werribee also has a welcome inclusion, with star defender Louis Pinnuck returning from an ankle injury for the crunch game.
Essendon has regained five AFL-listed players for its clash with the Gold Coast Suns at the NEC Hangar, with Matt Guelfi, Saad El-Hawli and youngsters Vigo Visentini, Oskar Smartt and Kayle Gerreyn all named in a strengthened Bombers outfit.
Ned Moyle and debutant Oscar Adams have been called up to the Suns' AFL team, with Jake Rogers one of six inclusions.
Brisbane Lions' key position stocks have taken a hit for their top-six clash with Southport at Brighton Homes Arena. Tom Doedee, Ty Gallop and Fergus McFadyen are all out of action, along with Shadeau Brain, however exciting young forward Will McLachlan returns from the AFL team.
Southport has a surprise inclusion, with the Sharks welcoming back Jay Lockhart after he returned to the club this week having spent the first half of the season with Tasmanian club Lilydale. It will be Lockhart's 50th appearance for Southport and first since last year's Grand Final defeat to Werribee.
Charlie Dean headlines five inclusions for Collingwood's clash with Carlton at IKON Park on Saturday night, although AFL call-ups Tom Mitchell and Roan Steele and injured defender Jakob Ryan go out of the side that upset Southport at Fankhauser Reserve in Round 14.
Carlton has made six changes, with Jordyn Boyd, Billy Wilson and Lewis Young returning from the AFL team, while Will Hayes and Denver Grainger-Barras have been recalled.
There’s plenty of news at the selection table for the opening game of Round 15, with the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne each making six changes for Friday’s clash at Mission Whitten Oval.
Despite in-form trio Riley Garcia, Caleb Poulter and Taylor Duryea all being called up to the AFL, the Bulldogs will still take a strong line-up into the clash.
Liam Jones, Buku Khamis, Michael Sellwood return, along with David Cuningham who will play his first game since the Round 7 win over Casey Demons.
The Roos will be without Zane Duursma, Cooper Harvey, Finbar Maley and Bailey Scott who have all been promoted to the AFL side.
Josh Goater makes his long-awaited return from injury for his first game since Round 1 last year. He comes in with fellow AFL-listers Jackson Archer, Callum Coleman-Jones and Eddie Ford.
Jack Scrimshaw and Sam Frost return for Box Hill's clash with Sandringham at Box Hill City Oval, where the Zebras have named St Kilda-listed quintet Jimmy Webster, Jack Carroll, Tobie Travaglia, Harry Boyd and Ryan Byrnes.
Port Melbourne has rushed key forward Jack Boyd into its side to take on old rival Williamstown at ETU Stadium. Boyd has previously played VFL for the Northern Bullants and Werribee and returns to the competition following a stint with SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens.
The Seagulls have regained Cam Polson for his first game since Round 9 as they chase an eighth-consecutive victory.
Sydney has made five changes for its clash with the Northern Bullants at Blacktown International Sports Park. Oli Florent, Caiden Cleary and Ben Paton are among the ins, with Joel Hamling promoted and Riley Bice and Caleb Mitchell sidelined by injury.
Charlie Spargo has been named for his first VFL game since 2023 when Casey Demons host Coburg in a crunch game at Casey Fields. Jake Lever, Jacob van Rooyen, Jake Lever and Jed Adams have all been selected in the AFL team after playing in last week's VFL defeat to the Gold Coast Suns, while Marty Hore has suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.
Daniel Johnston will play his first game of the year for Coburg, while forwards Kyle Weightman and Jack Andrew have earned recalls.
