Werribee premiership coach Jimmy Allan has been appointed as an assistant coach at St Kilda.
The 2024 VFL premiership mentor will form part of Ross Lyon’s experienced coaching panel, joining the Saints’ AFL program as assistant coach – backline.
Allan steered Werribee to its first flag in 31 years in his first season at the helm in 2024. He was also named coach of the Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year.
Five members of that premiership team went on to join AFL lists, including Riley Bice (Sydney Swans), Aidan Johnson, Jack Henderson (both Melbourne), Zac Banch (North Melbourne) and Flynn Young (Carlton).
The 2024 premiership success added to Allan's distinguished football CV following a decorated playing career for North Adelaide, Norwood and Werribee where he won three Magarey Medals as the SANFL’s best and fairest player, five club champion awards and a premiership.
Earlier this year Allan was inducted into the SA Football Hall of Fame.
Allan said he was grateful to the Werribee Football Club for the opportunity to kickstart his coaching career.
“I could not have asked for a better return to the club with the success we have enjoyed in the last two years. Coaching Werribee is a great job and one that is very hard to walk away from, but this is a fantastic opportunity,” Allan said.
“I thank everyone at Werribee for the support from day one and I know those same people will be 100 percent behind the next senior coach. That attitude is a part of what makes Werribee great.”
“It’s a club built on valuing and caring for its people and encouraging high performance and I am grateful to have had the chance to return as a coach and benefit from that experience”.
St Kilda CEO Carl Dilena said Allan was a welcome addition for the 2026 season.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Jimmy and his family to St Kilda,” Dilena said.
“We’re proud to have one of the most highly credentialed coaching panels in the competition and we believe with his skills and experience, Jimmy will fit nicely into the environment we’ve established.”
