Western Australia’s squad for the 2026 AAMI AFL Origin match is locked in, with West Coast Eagles forward Jake Waterman set to follow in his father’s footsteps on the Origin stage.
Waterman, whose father Chris represented Western Australia in Origin football throughout the 1990sis one of five final inclusions confirmed today.
He is joined by three-time Richmond premiership defender Nathan Broad, who will reunite with former Tiger teammates Liam Baker and Shai Bolton, and the Western Bulldogs’ Tim English, who will form part of a three-pronged WA ruck attack alongside Darcy Cameron and Luke Jackson.
Fremantle midfielder Jaeger O’Meara, who becomes the fourth Docker in the squad, and GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio, who will team up with GIANTS teammates Jesse Hogan and Sam Taylor, round out the inclusions.
West Coast Eagles defender Brandon Starcevich has been withdrawn from the 25-player squad after the club ruled him unavailable to play the required amount of game time for the AAMI AFL Origin match.
Western Australia has further strengthened its coaching panel, adding Fremantle Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty to support head coach Dean Cox and assistants Justin Longmuir and Nathan van Berlo.
In 2026, AAMI AFL Origin will be delivered with the support of the Western Australian Government, through Tourism WA, and showcase the best of the state to fans all over the country.
The 2026 AAMI AFL Origin match is shaping up to be a blockbuster clash in front of a sold-out Optus Stadium in Perth on February 14, with plenty of opportunities for fans to be able to revel in the excitement of Origin across a jam-packed week of fun family activations and entertainment including the free Footy Festival at Stadium Park outside Optus Stadium, and open training at Optus Stadium on Friday February 13.
The 2026 AAMI AFL Origin match will be broadcast on Seven Network and Foxtel, as well as 7plus and Kayo streaming platforms, spotlighting Perth and its world-class sporting facilities to the rest of the nation.
