The teams for game two of the 2026 Young Guns Series have been announced.
The second and final game of this year’s Series will see the Talent League Young Guns take on a Victoria Country U18 team at Werribee’s Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, May 2 from 11:30am.
The Talent League Young Guns predominantly features players born in 2007 who are competing as overage players in the Talent League competition this season and are eligible to be selected in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
The team also includes a small selection of 17-year-old players in contention to compete at this year’s Marsh AFL National Championships, in addition to VFL-listed players who have recently exited a Talent League program.
All players selected for the Young Guns were nominated by their respective club and AFL recruiters.
Saturday’s match provides these players with an additional development opportunity and the chance to showcase their talent in front of AFL recruiters.
Previous representatives to play for the Talent League Young Guns include Sam Durham, Massimo D’Ambrosio, Cooper Trembath, Jai Culley and Cooper Lord.
For the Victoria Country under 18 team, Saturday’s match is a chance for players to trial for selection in the final team to compete at the 2026 Marsh AFL National Championships, which commence next month.
Players who aren’t named to play for Victoria Country in the Young Guns Series remain eligible for selection in the final squads for the National Championships.
The Talent League Young Guns last week played against the VFL Young Guns at DSV Stadium, with the VFL side securing a 61-point win on ANZAC Day.
Three players who represented the VFL in that match will play for the Talent League Young Guns this week. They include Footscray duo Tom McGuane and Ged Saunders and the Casey Demons’ Tahj De La Rue.
