BRISBANE has all but secured third spot on the ladder and a qualifying final against Sydney after a comprehensive 63-point victory over Collingwood.

The Lions controlled the game from the outset and never really looked threatened, powering to a massive 25.9 (159) to 15.6 (96) demolition win.

It was an ominous warning sign to the rest of the competition, reaffirming they're still one of the best in the business as they chase a historic premiership three-peat.

Key forward Logan Morris was outstanding, booting a career-high eight goals from 15 disposals and eight marks to become the first Lion to kick eight goals in a game at the MCG.

The 21-year-old has become one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition as he eyes a maiden All-Australian blazer, the star Lion is a nightmare matchup for opposition defenders given his unique mix of athleticism and marking ability.

ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS

Irish forward Conor McKenna played one of the best games of his career, booting four majors, including a Coles Goal of the Year contender in the second term.

The lively ex-Bomber intercepted a stray handball close to goal, before soccering it through from an impossible angle to get the Brisbane faithful off their feet.

But he didn't stop there, snapping another huge goal in the third term from 40m out tight on the boundary line.

Brisbane's reliable midfield trio of Lachie Neale (35 disposals, nine score involvements), Will Ashcroft (25 disposals, one goal) and Josh Dunkley (27 disposals, six tackles) continued their strong seasons, dominating the clearance battle when the heat was on.

Half-backs Dayne Zorko and Jaspa Fletcher also provided plenty of drive out of the backline, while former Eagle Oscar Allen (four goals) and forward Eric Hipwood (three goals) hit the scoreboard.

Jordan De Goey was impressive for the Pies, racking up 32 disposals, 10 score involvements and two goals, while Brownlow Medal favourite Nick Daicos (26 disposals, one goal) worked hard all night before being managed in the final term.

Youngsters Sam Swadling (32 disposals, one goal), Angus Anderson (three goals) and Charlie West (three goals) continued their improvement, while ruck Darcy Cameron was also solid.

Brisbane defender Ty Gallop may face a nervous wait after giving away a free kick for a dangerous tackle on young Pie Charlie West in the third term.

The Pies, who had several stars missing through injury, will now face either the Western Bulldogs or Carlton in a cut throat Wildcard final.

The Lions are currently third on the ladder and will likely face Sydney in a qualifying final, unless Hawthorn or Melbourne can make up a considerable percentage difference against the Eagles and Bulldogs, respectively.

The Hawks would likely need to beat West Coast at Optus Oval by more than 80 points to snatch third spot from the Lions.

Injury strikes wildcard-bound Pies
The Pies will sweat on the fitness of veteran Scott Pendlebury after he was ruled out of the clash during the second term with a knee bursa. The games record holder had started promisingly with eight disposals and was at his creative best across half-forward before injury struck. Craig McRae and the Collingwood coaching staff had weighed up all week whether or not they should give some of their stars a week off and a rest ahead of a must-win wildcard final. Will they be regretting that decision now if Pendlebury is ruled out of next week's clash?

Rayner's new accessory
Brisbane forward Cam Rayner was sporting a new accessory on Friday night, donning a black helmet. Rayner split his earlobe in the Lions' round 22 victory over Hawthorn and then split it again last week in the QClash. It's been all stitched up but he wore a helmet in order to protect the area and hope it heals. The star Lion had a strong performance against the Pies, racking up 21 touches and a goal.
