NORTH MELBOURNE coach Brad Scott has not joined his players on the flight to Perth.

The players were due to fly out from Melbourne Airport early Wednesday evening.

The club said Scott would now fly out on Thursday morning to join the team in Perth ahead of Friday night's clash with West Coast.

Scott's illness has been described as a "24-hour virus" and the club has offered assurances he will be right to coach the team.

"He's ok, but just resting up," a club spokesman told AFL.com.au.

Scott is the second coach this month to become the subject of a health scare, after Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley was unable to coach his side against the Kangaroos in Tasmania.

The Kangaroos coach didn't attend training on Tuesday, leaving his three assistants to front his weekly news conference.

Assistant coach Darren Crocker has stepped up to coach the Roos before, following Dean Laidley's departure in 2009.
