Former Fremantle goalsneak Paul Medhurst arrives in Victoria on Thursday to begin a new chapter in his AFL career with Collingwood with a point to prove.Medhurst, who turns 25 in December, leaves Fremantle after 99 games and 166 goals in five seasons but with the disappointment of being frozen out of the side during the club's most successful period burning away inside of him. After missing just two games in his first four years with the Dockers, Medhurst played just 12 games in 2006 and realising his opportunities were suddenly limited he agreed to move to the Magpies as part of the deal which sent the Pies' high-profile spearhead Chris Tarrant west.Medhurst admits it hurt to be an on-looker during Fremantle's most-successful period after being such an integral part of the team for so long but is itching to make a fresh start with his new club."It was difficult to take at Fremantle this year being out of the side at a time when they were on a record nine match winning streak and then playing off in a preliminary final," he told Sportal on Monday."Then on the last day of trade day there was a chance to go to Collingwood, it basically came up in about a two and half hour period and I grabbed it."Medhurst says there was "no specific reason" as to why he suddenly found himself out of the Fremantle side this year, denying it was a case of the Dockers preferring Jeff Farmer ahead of him after years of the pair playing together."They just wanted to go with a different structure to see if it worked and unfortunately it did work and they started winning and I found myself frozen out of the side," he said."But it definitely gives me a point to prove this year and I want to make the most of this opportunity because if I don't, history says the game can pass you by."Medhurst believes a move to the Lexus Centre will be the perfect opportunity to revive his career."They are such a strong club on and off the field with so much history," he said of the Magpies."When I started going through the move I couldn't believe how many positives there were and I can't believe I have got the chance to call the MCG home and to play on an Anzac Day and to play in front of the Collingwood's huge supporter base."Medhurst is also looking forward to playing at the feet of the Magpies' large crop of powerful forwards such as Anthony Rocca, Travis Cloke, Josh Fraser and Sean Rusling."There should be plenty of crumbs and those big fellas will help create space for me," he said.Medhurst is also looking forward to destroying the myth that he only performs well in Perth and struggles to kick goals outside of Subiaco."My first couple of years I struggled to play well in Melbourne but my form was only mirroring that of the team's because at that time Fremantle really struggled in Melbourne," he said."It's pretty hard to kick goals as a small forward when the team is struggling but as the team started to improve (on the road) so did my form and my record in my past five or six games at the MCG has been pretty good."
