THE SWANS are not the only team with injury concerns with Channel 10's Brad McEwen doing a knee at training for the charity Redkite Cup match on Saturday.

The curtain-raiser to the Swans versus Fremantle match is designed to promote the work of Redkite, a leading charity supporting young cancer patients and their families.

The organisation is in its 25th year and the match will feature Ian "Dicko" Dickson, Underbelly star Les Hill and Chaser Craig Reucassel among others.

However, McEwen is an unlikely starter after taking a speccie and landing awkwardly at training for the celebrity side at the SCG. The sportscaster was philosophical after being carried off for medical attention.

"I was ready to take a massive hanger, I was in terrific form and I slipped and the knee's gone. Adam Spencer is our captain and he'll now have to lift, but he'll be up for the challenge.

"Nick Malceski got back in nine weeks, so I reckon I'll be back when I'm 90."

One player who got through training was actor Hill, star of the critically acclaimed Underbelly TV series.

"I've been a Bloods man since the 80s. And it's a great cause. As for the game, I'll probably stay in the centre of the park and try to push forward.

"And I hope no-one targets me on the field for a role I portray on TV," said the actor who portrayed gangland heavy Jason Moran."

Meanwhile Mel Spencer, wife of skipper Adam, said her hubby does not want her on the same side as him. "But I said, if he doesn't put me on the same side as him, I might accidentally kick him where it hurts. So it's in his best interest to keep me on his team."

But the last word on the Redkite charity match goes to the injured McEwen who added: "I guess what the kids go through and what Redkite does, compared to this knee it puts it all in perspective."
