The Ants-nest is buzzing with finals fever, all in preparation for this Saturday’s cut throat final against equal flag fancy Sandringham.
Most observers expected these two teams to play off in the big one, but Williamstown ruined that. Now, the two VFL juggernauts must face off a week early. The team that wins this match will be the red hot favourite to go all the way.
The Bullants snuck over the line last week, and although the win wasn’t impressive, it was a win they needed not only to stay alive, but to restore confidence amongst the playing group.
Midfield general Daniel Harford had a quiet game last week, so the favourite for the Bullants best and fairest will look to make up for that with a solid effort this week. Bullants leading goal kicker Digby Morrell (51 goals) has been very quiet in the last two games, so his input, especially in front of goal will go a long way in getting the Ants over the line.
The Bullants have named virtually the same line up as last week, again opting for experienced Carlton listed players. Carlton youngsters Paul Bower and Ryan Jackson have been named on the interchange bench, along with ex-Blue Anthony Franchina who returns from injury.
Bullant midfielder Ross Young misses again through injury, leaving the onus on Daniel Harford and Nick fallu to pick up the slack through the corridor.
Sandringham come into this game having enjoyed the week’s rest, so the Bullants will be hoping the Zebras are rusty, in order to jump them early. But with Mark Williams trying to steer his team to its third successive VFL title, you can bet the Zebras will be switched on from the word go.
The Zebras also celebrate the inclusion of David Gallagher and Andy Biddlecombe in the VFL’s team of the year.
With absolutely no AFL games in Melbourne for the next two weeks, this is a great opportunity for all footy fans, not just Bullants and Carlton fans, to enjoy a great day of local footy at its best, for an affordable price.
Also, get in amongst the action at the quarter time and three quarter time huddles to hear what Bullants coach Barry Mitchell or Sandringham coach Mark Williams have to say to their troops.
