The great Polly Farmer is returning to Skilled Stadium. Arguably Geelong’s greatest player, Farmer will be back with the Cats to celebrate the club’s annual Hall of Fame ball.

This year’s Hall of Fame celebration will honour the 1963 premiership team on the 40th anniversary of their success, and will see the induction of a second club stalwart.

“Polly is clearly one of the greatest players in Geelong and AFL history,” chief executive Brian Cook said.

“He is recognized across the football community as a player ahead of his time and it is fitting that he will be able to celebrate the anniversary of the ’63 premiership with his teammates. We are looking forward to the night which is always one of the great events of the year.”

Farmer joined Geelong after winning three Sandover Medals with East Perth. He played 101 games with the Cats, finishing second in the 1963 Brownlow Medal, winning two best and fairests and leading the club to the ’63 flag.

Farmer returned to Western Australia in 1968 when he joined West Perth. He added two premierships to the three he had won with East Perth before retiring at the end of the 1971 season. He played a staggering 37 state games (31 for WA, 6 for Victoria) and was a three time All Australian. He is a member of both Geelong’s and the AFL’s Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame ball will be held in the Alex Popescu Room at Skilled Stadium on Saturday 9 August. Booking are now open. At just $99 it represents a great way to be involved in one of the club’s premier occasions.
