In 2011, Hawthorn Football Club is celebrating the outstanding achievement of ‘Five Decades of Flags’, 10 premierships in 50 years.

To mark this historic occasion the Hawks Museum has published a set of postcards and an accompanying autograph/postcard album.

Avid Hawks fans will want to collect the unique set; the 10 premiership team photos and an 11th postcard of the surviving members of the 1961 premiership team.

There are only 500 of the limited collector’s edition card albums available at $10 a set, with the autograph album at $15.

The Hawks joined the VFL in 1925 and played rather an insignificant role for 37 years.  In 1957, the Hawks made their first finals appearance and in 1961 went on to win their first VFL premiership.

Premierships followed in 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991 and 2008.

Ten premierships across five decades now mark Hawthorn as the most successful Club for the last 50 years.

All Hawks fans will recall with pride when our six magnificent premiership captains, Graham Arthur, David Parkin, Don Scott (twice), Leigh Matthews, Michael Tuck (Tuck played in 7 Premiership and captained four flags, the VFL/AFL record) and Sam Mitchell held the Premiership Cup aloft.

The 1961 team will this year celebrate their 50th anniversary at a special reunion to be held on Thursday 25 August at a luncheon to be held at Leonda Restaurant in Hawthorn.

All fans are welcome to attend and meet the 17 surviving players from that greatest day in September when the Hawks came of age as a Club.
