With Fremantle today announcing its new chief executive, and Melbourne letting Paul McNamee go yesterday, speculation has been rife that Schwab is a prime candidate to resume the role he had at the club from 1997-99.
While Schwab has not ruled out a return to the Demons, he indicated the role is not something he is seeking.
"I've given it no consideration and I won't be giving it any," Schwab said at the appointment of new chief executive Steve Rosich on Thursday.
"The next phase of my life will be about organising my family back in Melbourne and then taking a break. [The position at Melbourne] is not a consideration for me at all … I'm looking to do something different.
"The fact that other clubs have made choices that has seen my name brought up has nothing to do with me. I had no control over what happened at the Melbourne Football Club yesterday".
While Schwab's contract with Fremantle expires on October 31, he will leave Perth following the club's round 18 derby clash with West Coast.
Chief executive since 2001, Schwab is proud of the position he will leave the club in but admits to making some mistakes.
"We traded for different reasons at different times, and some of those have become very important players to this club and others haven’t for whatever reason.
"What we did initially was to trade to create positivity and excitement around the club when it needed it, but on reflection we did trade too much and I take responsibility for that," he said.
"We are all in it to win premierships and I was hoping we'd have a little more silverware at the club by now, but it's very difficult to go from a wooden spoon team to a premiership, which is where the club was when I took over.
"I feel I've made a meaningful contribution to football in WA. It has been the most enjoyable time I've had in the game.
Schwab was positive about the future for Fremantle.
"The club is now set up to go from good to great. We are good in that we've got lots of support, have very strong structure and a capable board and staff, but that hasn’t transitioned into performance. It's still a fantastic and exciting time for anyone that supports the club."
