SYDNEY could be boosted by the return of stars Dane Rampe and Kurt Tippett for its clash against in-form St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Rampe featured in the opening round of the season against Port Adelaide before breaking his arm in the days soon after.

The rebounding defender was out on a recovery run with teammates when he tripped and fell over a chain outside the SCG complex.

Swans coach John Longmire was hopeful the 2016 All Australian would be available for selection should be get through training on Thursday.

"We've got a 'please don't jump over chains, even low chains' sign up in the office and the change rooms to make sure that doesn't happen again," Longmire said at the SCG on Thursday.

"He's been running a lot and he's done some contact work, but he'll step that up again.

"We want to make the decision with all the facts in front of us, and he'll ramp up the competitive work and we'll see how he goes."

Tippett played in the Swans' NEAFL side last weekend, kicking four goals, and notching 22 disposals and six marks.

Sydney decided not to select him for the senior team due to a limited preparation.

The ruckman sprained his ankle against the Western Bulldogs in round two and has managed just three games this season.

"The reason why we played him in the reserves last week is that he missed a lot of football and a lot of training," Longmire said on SEN.

"He still didn't get through the full four quarters last week – he was a little bit tight in his hip in the last quarter so he was able to sit out the rest of the game in the reserves, which he wouldn't have been able to do at senior level.

"He was able to get some game time under his belt but he was also able to manage his hip which is the reason why he missed the previous week.

"He ran on Tuesday and we'll look to see if he trains today. If he trains today he'll be available and really back in that selection mix to play."
