IN TONIGHT'S Yokayi Footy, an impassioned Chad Wingard and Gilbert McAdam detail soul-destroying experiences of racism that they say need to be called out and stopped.

McAdam said he had dealt with racism his entire life, and also revealed why he wrote a letter to controversial News Corp columnist Andrew Bolt.

He recalled a time in his childhood when he travelled the country as a 12yo playing junior sport at an elite level and was confronted with the ugly face of racism.

"By the time I was 12 years old I had travelled all around Australia and … I was getting it [racial vilification] when I was under-12s," an emotional McAdam said.

"I don't go on social media because I don't want read anything bad or negative because I'm over that stuff and what it does to me, it brings back memories and I get upset.

"I went to a pub for a quiet drink. I had a drink and this bloke said the word *** right next to me … So I pulled him up.   The silly thing was he was sitting next to the pub owner and the pub owner didn't say a word. I just stared at the pub owner, shook my head, I walked out, jumped in a cab and went home."

Former West Coast and Western Bulldogs star Josh Hill said you just want to be treated as an equal.

"Enough is enough ... Do we really want to see this next generation of footballers come through the system and just not want to play because they’ve had enough of racism? It really hurts."

Yokayi Footy will be broadcast on AFL.com.au, the AFL Live Official App, NITV, SBS and SBS On Demand every Wednesday at 8pm.
