SHE might have changed colours again, but there was no dip in the remarkable form of Aimee Whelan as she earned another perfect 10 votes in the VFLW Coaches Player of the Year award.

Whelan, who was in dominant touch for Hawthorn in the first five weeks of the season, was signed by the Sydney Swans’ new AFLW team during the break and returned to her original club Williamstown for the rest of this season, and picked up where she left off by impressing both Penny Cula-Reid and Sean Buncle in the Seagulls’ 30-point win over Port Melbourne at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Road Oval.

She had 29 disposals, eight more than the next most prolific player, teammate Jasmine Kawa (four votes), taking her to 33 and second place on the leaderboard behind Darebin gun Angelica Gogos, who had 23 disposals, 12 tackles and a goal against her old team Western Bulldogs to poll 10 votes and climb to 37 – 27 of them in the past three games.

Carlton’s Millie Klingbeil was other player to receive a perfect 10-vote game, doing so for her 21 disposals in the Blues’ thrilling upset of Collingwood.

Lambert-Pearce medallist Georgia Nanscawen showed no rust after three weeks off with a knee injury, picking up nine votes in Essendon’s record-breaking win over Geelong, while Hawthorn’s Dom Carbone and North Melbourne’s Annabel Scott (in a losing team) received nine each in their clash at Sandringham.

Similar to the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year, the VFLW award is voted on by the coaches of each club after every game in both competitions.

The coaches are awarding 5-4-3-2-1 to their best players in the game from either team, with those votes collated and revealed each week on vfl.com.au.

Another 11 players attracted the coaches’ attention for the first time in Round 6, making it 156 who have polled votes across the first six rounds.
