THE squads are in for the first two rebel VFLW practice matches of season 2023, with the three VFLW clubs in action to send out new-look teams.
Carlton will host Port Melbourne at IKON Park from 11am, while North Melbourne welcomes Tasmanian club Glenorchy to Arden St at 1:30pm, and there are plenty of familiar faces despite a lack of AFLW-listed players.
The Blues have 13 recruits in their squad of 26, with VFLW signings including Libby Hosking, Kasey Lennox and Octavia Di Donato (Essendon), Christina Bernardi and Jessica Joyce (Port Melbourne), Madison Katerelos and Sarah McCausland (Western Bulldogs) and Isabelle Khoury and Amy Malander (Hawthorn).
The Borough have selected 28 players for the game and remarkably only six were in Port colours in 2022. The recruits are led by Eliza Morrison (Western Bulldogs), Laura Wright (North Melbourne), Dom Carbone and Isabelle Porter (Hawthorn), Lauren Caruso (Essendon), Zoe Mitchell (Casey Demons) and Cherry Russell (Williamstown) from other VFLW clubs.
The Kangaroos named 27 players to take on the Tasmanian Magpies, with the squad featuring 13 new members, including Marianna Anthony and Felicity Theodore (Essendon), Madisen Maguire (Geelong), Dalia Edward and Teah Stepan (Port Melbourne), Margie Purcell (Western Bulldogs) and returning Roo Elisha King.
Glenorchy’s squad features experienced AFLW player Ashleigh Guest, who played 40 matches at the highest level for GWS, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs from 2017-22, and her leadership will be important in a young Magpies squad looking to showcase their talent.
