WEST Coast defender Matt Spangher has asked to be traded after 26 games in five seasons, while rookies Adam Cockie and Will Sullivan have been cut by the club.

The Eagles have also announced that promising rookies Andrew Strijk and Callum Wilson will be promoted to the club’s senior list in 2011 after excellent performances late in the season.

Spangher, who hails from Victoria, will seek opportunities elsewhere next season after playing just eight games this year. The 23-year-old couldn’t secure a key defensive post in 2010, with Eric Mackenzie and Will Schofield preferred by the club.

Cockie and Sullivan are the first casualties of West Coast’s horror season, which netted just four wins and saw the club collect its first wooden spoon.

Sullivan, a developing ruckman, could not manage a senior game in his three seasons on the club’s rookie list and the 21-year-old needed to be elevated or delisted under AFL rules.

Cockie, meanwhile, has just completed his second year on the rookie list, but the 21-year-old was cut down by injuries this season and could not add to his seven AFL games.

Elevated full-forward Wilson has been on West Coast’s rookie list for three seasons and also needed to be promoted onto the senior list or released into the draft.

The 22-year-old played the last three AFL games, kicking nine goals, and enjoyed a solid WAFL season with South Fremantle that netted 43 goals from 17 games.

Strijk, 22, was the find of the draft for West Coast, playing 10 consecutive games after debuting in round 13. The mature-age recruit has secured a place on the Eagles’ senior list, but the club has a policy of not revealing the length of player contracts.
