Addison had been offered a one-match ban by the match review panel on Monday, but could have had that reduced to a reprimand with an early guilty plea.
Addison was reported by goal umpire Chelsea Roffey during the third quarter of the Bulldogs’ 24-point loss to the Saints in the second preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday night.
In giving evidence before the tribunal, Roffey said: “I saw a Bulldogs player punch a St Kilda player in the guts.”
Roffey added that the punch “appeared to be quite forceful”. She also said Gilbert seemed to be winded afterwards.
The only video footage of the incident was captured by a behind-the-goals camera.
It showed Addison making contact with Gilbert, who was then hunched over for quite some time.
Addison told the tribunal he had not intended to hurt Gilbert. He said he had been trying to push Gilbert away and had accidentally hit the St Kilda player in a “sweet spot” in his midriff.
However, the jury of Wayne Henwood, Richard Loveridge and Wayne Schimmelbusch stuck by the match review panel’s original verdict.
