Very few know what it’s like to be an AFL player on game-day. Cool-as-a-cucumber North Melbourne captain Adam Simpson had no qualms about letting the AFL Record trail him from breakfast to bedtime in order to find out. From pre-game jitters soothed with vegemite toast, to the Blade soundtrack pumping through the Kangaroos’ change-room, the AFL Record was privy to all.

In our ongoing series, How To Play Football, Collingwood assistant coach Guy McKenna analyses football’s equivalent of Russian roulette – the art of movement at stoppages. Also, Tom Lonergan speaks to the AFL Record about returning to the Cats after the freak accident which saw him lose a kidney, in Round 21, 2006.

The Bombers remember Bill Hutchison –the perfect gentleman, and the perfect rover– and recognise his foundation, established in 2006 as a harm prevention organisation. (See attached for a special cover produced for the Essendon v Hawthorn game.) St Kilda honours some of its grandest names, including the Saints’ only premiership coach, Allan Jeans, at its Hall of Fame function, and the West Coast Eagles make their mark in the community through ‘Kicking Goals’ - their charity mentoring West Australian children. (Special West Coast v Sydney cover attached.)

As always in the Record, there’s Out of Bounds with Dipper (and Kane Cornes), Dorothy Kix, Pocket Profiles, Answer Man, Memorabilia and much more, as well as all the team and player stats you need to watch the game.

The AFL Record is available at all match-day venues for $4.
